Nice to know that us Brits are thought of as forming the standard for 
European (i.e. not US) English, but I rather doubt it.

Presumably there are plenty of equally hilarious examples of non-native 
French speakers' oddities in French, non-native German speakers' 
oddities in German, etc. But this being a resolutely anglophone list, we 
don't hear about them.
