Task #7: Coarse-grained English all-words (Coarse AW)

http://nlp.cs.swarthmore.edu/semeval/tasks/task07/description.shtml

Abstract

One of the major obstacles to effective WSD is the fine granularity of
the adopted computational lexicon. Specifically, WordNet encodes sense
distinctions which are too subtle even for human annotators (Edmonds and
Kilgariff, 1998). The coarse-grained English all-words task for
Semeval-2007 will use the same texts as Task # (the SemEval-2007
All-words Task), but cluster WordNet senses using the Oxford Dictionary
of English sense inventory. Participants will also be able to perform
the task using the sense inventories of the Oxford Dictionary of English
and the Macquarie Dictionary. The texts will be tagged by professional
lexicographers. This task will enable a detailed analysis of the
significance of the sense inventories in WSD.
