Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a call for abstracts for a forthcoming special issue of the International Journal of Applied Linguistics (IJoAL) (SSCI; AHCI) titled:
Ethical AI in Applied Linguistics: From Ethics to Praxis
Guest Editors: Dr. Chaoran Wang (Colby College) & Dr. Zhongfeng Tian (Rutgers University–Newark)
This special issue invites applied linguists, educators, and researchers to explore the ethical dimensions of AI in language education and research by bridging what we call “small” and “big” ethics—from classroom-level dilemmas (academic integrity, fairness, authorship, responsible AI use) to systemic and global questions (linguistic bias, epistemic justice, data access, environmental impact).
We aim to foster integrative scholarship that connects everyday pedagogical practice with the broader sociopolitical, cultural, and technological stakes of AI. Submissions may address (but are not limited to):

  *
Ethics in AI-mediated language teaching and learning
  *
Structural inequalities and epistemic justice
  *
Language ideologies and critical perspectives
  *
Ethical AI design and development for language diversity
  *
Situated and intercultural ethical praxis
  *
Engaging industry and educational leadership perspectives

🗓️ Abstract deadline: December 20, 2025
📧 Submit to: chaowang at colby.edu<mailto:chaowang at colby.edu> and zhongfeng.tian at rutgers.edu<mailto:zhongfeng.tian at rutgers.edu>
📄 Full details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hrjxWb17L-7KJedWiH0KvZfkTJpoB-BE/view?usp=share_link
We look forward to your submission!
Best,
Zhongfeng & Chaoran
