Dear all,
We are pleased to share the programme for "Rappresentare il Femminiello: Prospettive Linguistiche, Culturali e Audiovisive / Representing the Femminiello: Linguistic, Cultural and Audiovisual Perspectives", organised by Francesco Nacchia at the University of Naples L'Orientale and supported by the I-LanD Research Centre.
Bringing together scholars and practitioners from different disciplinary backgrounds, the initiative explores the cultural, social, linguistic and audiovisual representations of the Neapolitan femminiello, including gender and intersectional perspectives.
The programme runs from 23 October to 14 December 2026, with seven online seminars on Microsoft Teams and two documentary screenings with discussions in Naples. Sessions will be held in Italian and English. Participation is free, and students from all degree programmes are welcome.

Taking the Neapolitan femminielli abroad: translation, visibility and knowledge

Documentary screenings and discussions — 14 December
Palazzo Santa Maria Porta Coeli, Room R4, Via Duomo 219, Naples. Both documentaries will be screened with English subtitles.

The series comprises nine two-hour sessions, totalling 18 hours. Students enrolled in the EA and MC degree programmes at L'Orientale may obtain 3 CFU under "Altre Attività Formative", subject to successful completion of the final assessment.
The initiative is funded under the University's Gender Equality Plan (GEP) 2025–2027, promoted by the Comitato Unico di Garanzia (CUG).
