Position Title: Lecturer in Spanish. Full-time, continuing
Reference number:  50000945. Bundoora Campus

The Department of Spanish has 4 full-time members of staff and teaches
undergraduate courses at all levels in Spanish Language, Hispanic
Linguistics, Spanish and Latin American Literature  and Culture,
Catalan, Portuguese and Galician.

It also supervises honours and postgraduate research in these fields.
The Department also teaches its program at the University of Melbourne
through a cross-institutional arrangement.

Members of the Department also collaborate with  the Institute of Latin
American Studies and teach subjects (in English) within the European
Studies area.

Instruction in all courses and levels taught within the Department is
conducted in the target language.

The successful candidate will coordinate the Department's (Spanish)
language program at all levels, participate in the teaching of language
and other relevant subjects at all locations, and maintain an active
research record in the area of Applied Linguistics/second language
acquisition.

                       Essential criteria include:
   - a PhD in Applied Linguistics or Linguistics, specialising in
Spanish Language and having  a special interest in the teaching and
acquisition of Spanish as a second language
   - native or near-native competence in Spanish and English
   - demonstrated excellence in teaching Spanish as a second language at
all levels in tertiary institutions, and experience in programme &
subject coordination
   - an established and active research record in the area of
specialisation, with evidence of ongoing research into second language
acquisition and/or the application of new technologies in second
language  teaching
   - experience in supervision of Honours, Masters and PhD candidates
   - a commitment to teaching in the target language

                      Desirable attributes include:
   - Given the Department's and Faculty's research strengths and
interests in Latin America and Spain, a secondary area of specialisation
such as cultural studies, history, sociology, anthropology, or
literature, Catalan, Portuguese, or Galician
   - ability to participate elsewhere in the Department's/School's
multidisciplinary program
   - demonstrated administrative experience

This position attracts a remuneration package of $56,877 to $67,542 per
annum, which includes 17% employer superannuation. Applicants must
