Dear all

I saw in a posting from Terry Wiley a list of ASU papers and books that are
available. I don't know if this is the right thing to be doing here but you
may be interested in some 2001 publications that deal specifically with
language and literacy policy and planning, mainly Australian but not soley,
and that are not always easily available in US.

Australian Policy Activism in Language and Literacy, edited by myself and
Rosie Wickert, published Language Australia Publications Melbourne. I attach
a review of the book by Prof. Mary Hamilton of Lancaser University in the
UK.

Language and Literacy Planning in Scotland, 2001

Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research: The
University of Stirling, Stirling, Scotland.

Vietnam: Quoc Ngu, Colonialism and Language Policy, in Language Policy and
Planning in East Asia.

Pp 159-207, in Language Planning and Policy, East Asian Perspectives, edited
by N. Gottlieb and P. Chen, Richmond, Surrey, UK: Curzon.

Language Policies: State Texts For Silencing and Giving Voice

Pp 31-71 in Difference, Silence and Textual Practice: Studies in Critical
Literacy, edited by P. Freebody, S. Muspratt and B. Dwyer,Cresskill. NJ:
Hampton Press.

This chapter compares UK, US and Australia in relation to several aspects of
language planning as at 1997.

Policy Literacy, 2001

Language and Education, An International Journal, Clevedon, Avon:
Multilingual Matters.Vol. 15, No. 2 & 3, pp 212-227. In this article I
discuss the process of public policy making, some critiques of its
'rationalism' and its lessons for language policy and planning.

Recent articles of mine in Australian Language Matters have also discussed
language policy and may be of interest to some of you.
