Full-time post-doc and PhD positions are available at the Language
Learning and Processing Lab of Dr. Inbal Arnon at the Hebrew University in
Jerusalem (http://arnonlanguagelab.huji.ac.il/index.php/en/). The initial
post-doc appointment will be for one year with the option to renew annually
up to 3 years, the PhD appointment is for 4 years. Preferred starting date:
September 2017 (flexible). The lab’s core research areas are
psycholinguistics, first language acquisition, and L1-L2 differences, with
a focus on the way learning mechanisms change with experience. Our research
combines theoretical insights and methods from Cognitive Science,
Linguistics and Psychology.

The positions are part of an externally funded project on the developmental
trajectory of statistical learning, focusing on the sources and
consequences of individual differences in statistical learning abilities
(SL). The project will examine changes in SL change across childhood; their
predictive power for language learning outcomes; and the genetic factors
underlying variation in SL abilities. Our primary methodologies are
behavioural, computational, and corpus-based. Other techniques such as,
EEG-fMRI, are possible through collaborations with faculty members in
Psychology, and the Jerusalem Brain Community (
https://scholars.huji.ac.il/jbc/home). The successful candidates are
expected to work on topics that are compatible with the lab interests,
broadly construed (language learning and processing).

We are seeking a highly qualified post doc with a doctorate in a relevant
field (Psychology, Linguistics, and Cognitive Science) and shared interests
in the core research areas described above. The researcher, ideally, should
have extensive experience with psycholinguistic methods, including
paradigms of statistical learning. Computational modeling experience is
welcome but not required. In addition, we are looking for strong candidates
for a funded PhD studentship. The successful candidate will have a
background in language studies (linguistics, psycholinguistics and/or language
acquisition) and demonstrated experience in research from their BA.
Knowledge of programming and statistical analysis is an advantage.

For both positions, a passion and a commitment to science, intellectual
curiosity and collaborative orientation are a requirement. Interested
candidates should send a CV, a statement of research interests, and the
names and contact details of two academic references to
Inbal.arnon at mail.huji.ac.il by February 3rd. Applications will be
considered until the positions are filled.
