I see your point. The detailed argument I would like to make about the put-release verbs in MNEA languages is that they share the following four meanings: `to relax (a part of oneself, e.g. hand or heart)’, `to leave (something at a location)’, `to put’ and `to release’. So while verbs meaning `to put’ and `to release’ are indeed observed outside of MNEA, a verb sharing this specific semantic range consisting of four meanings would be rarer, I would suspect. (Although, after consulting a dictionary of the Adi language, it does seem to encompass all these four meanings as well). Please find attached a part of my manuscript that gives examples of four MNEA languages where the same verb is used for each of these four meanings.

Gyalrongic languages are of course in contact with both Sichuanese and Standard Mandarin, but this contact, at least for Japhug, is post-1949. I think that it is unlikely that this use of ta is calqued from Chinese, especially since the range of meaning of this verb is not identical to that of Chinese 放 (see the online Japhug-French-Chinese dictionary for examples). However, I do not dispute that this possibility deserves to be investigated in more detail.
As for Adi, contact with Mandarin in Arunachal Pradesh is probably very limited.

On the other hand, it seems to me that the two languages (Japhug and Abor) you mentioned are within or adjacent to Mandarin-speaking region (including Southwestern Mandarin), in common with the MNEA languages I mentioned. Could it be that this polysemy is caused by the contact between Mandarin and its neighboring languages?

The colexification of 'put' and 'release' is not restricted to this particular area; it is also found in at least some Gyalrong languages further south (Japhug ta 'put' can be used in the sense of 'release, let ... get away with it' ="放过"), and I would not be surprised if it is found in other languages of Western Sichuan.

I am currently writing a paper proposing Mainland Northeast Asia (MNEA) as a linguistic area, and I would like to know if there are any previous studies that have analyzed this region as a linguistic area.

The MNEA area I propose includes northern China, Mongolia, Korea, but not Japan, Sakhalin, and Russian Far East. One feature of this area, which I am currently working on with my colleagues, is that the languages spoken there colexify `to put’ and `to release’, as shown in the attached map.
