[Lingtyp] Intuitions about inclusive time reference

Dear Oesten, dear all,

I must admit, I would render the sentence into English (my mother tongue,
from London, UK) as I would in German (where I have lived for 15 years):

"Mary wanted to submit her application today" (cf. Christian's German: *Heute
wollte Maria ihren Antrag einreichen*)
Or: "Mary said she was going to submit her application today".

I believe that you would also use a similar construction in Ju|'hoan (Ju,
Kx'a):

*Màrí kò hȁ ǁqx’òà ű-á **hȁ*
* ǂxànì-sì kò ǁà’íkè*

PN QUOT PRO1 send go-VE PRO1 4.paper-PL MPO 4.today

'Mary wanted/was going to send her papers off today'.

Note that the above is not the standard quotative construction:

*Màrí nǁàè t**è kò hȁ tè ** qx’òà ű ha ǂxànì-sì kò ǁà’íkè*

PN say LNK QUOT LNK PRO1 send go-VE PRO1 4.paper-PL MPO 4.today

'Mary said that she was going to send off her papers today'.

Best, Lee
