Dear Sebastian,

some notes on the history of interlinear glossing are in
Lehmann, Christian 2004, “Interlinear morphemic glossing.” Lehmann,
Christian et al. (eds.), /Morphologie. Ein internationales Handbuch zur
Flexion und Wortbildung. 2. Halbband./ Berlin & New York: W. de Gruyter
(Handbücher zur Sprach- und Kommunikationswissenschaft, 17.2); 1834-1857
[online

Although medieval monks did, in fact, extensive glossing of Latin texts
whose understanding was fading, I am afraid the layout of those glosses
does not meet the conditions of your definition.

Best,
Christian
