Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to circulate a Call for Papers for a proposed edited volume
to be published by Oxford University Press:

*Pronominal Constructions across Languages: Lexicalisation,
Grammaticalisation and Pragmaticalisation*

Editors:
Mihail Kopotev (University of Helsinki / Stockholm University)
Piotr Sobotka (Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences)
Mladen Uhlik (Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language / University
of Ljubljana)

The volume grows out of the workshop *Constructions with Multiple Wh-Words
across Languages*, held at the 59th Annual Meeting of the Societas
Linguistica Europaea in Osnabrück in August 2026. While the workshop
focused on reduplication, repetition and combinations of wh-elements, the
planned volume broadens the perspective to pronominal constructions more
generally and to processes of constructional change involving pronouns.

We invite chapter proposals dealing with conventionalised constructions
involving pronominal elements whose form–function pairing cannot be
straightforwardly reduced to the ordinary paradigmatic functions of the
pronouns involved. Contributions may concern any language and may adopt
functional, formal, typological, usage-based, construction-grammar,
diachronic or other relevant approaches.

Topics may include, among others:

   - interrogative and wh-based constructions;
   - indefinite pronoun constructions;
   - relative and free-relative constructions;
   - person marking and pronominal paradigms;
   - reciprocal, reflexive and other non-canonical pronouns;
   - changes in pronominal form and function, including lexicalisation,
   grammaticalisation and pragmaticalisation.

We particularly welcome corpus-based, experimental and typologically
comparative studies, as well as work on less well-described and
under-represented languages.

*Proposal deadline: 30 October 2026*

Proposals should consist of an abstract of *500–800 words*, written in
British English, and should identify the language or languages and data
examined, explain the theoretical or methodological approach, and indicate
how the chapter contributes to the central themes of the volume. Accepted
chapters will subsequently undergo double-blind peer review.

Please find the full Call for Papers attached, including detailed
information on the scope, submission requirements and contact details.

We would be grateful if you could also circulate the Call for Papers among
colleagues who may be interested.

With best regards,

Mihail Kopotev
Piotr Sobotka
Mladen Uhlik
