Subject: Edinburgh Theoretical Historical Linguistics Seminar (ETHL)


The first Edinburgh Theoretical Historical Linguistics Seminar (ETHL -
https://ethl.uk/) will take place on 16–17 April 2025 in Edinburgh.
ETHL’s seminar structure is inspired by a summer school format, with a
strong emphasis on discussions between historical linguists engaged
with linguistic theory and theoretical linguists interested in
diachrony. While the event primarily targets postgraduate students and
early-career researchers, we warmly welcome anyone with an interest in
historical and theoretical linguistics.
Over the two days, the seminar will feature four two-hour sessions,
each led by an expert in theoretical historical linguistics. These
sessions will explore various facets of the intersection between
historical and theoretical linguistics. Each seminar will follow a
flexible structure, typically beginning with a lecture and
transitioning into an extended discussion.
Participants will also have the opportunity to present their research
in a “snap-talk,” a concise and interactive alternative to the
traditional academic poster. More details here:
