Call for Papers:
SpeakVar Workshop: A workshop on intraspeaker and interspeaker
variability
The MTA–ELTE NYTK Lendület “Momentum” Neurophonetics Research Group
and the ELTE Research Centre for Linguistics invite you to participate
in the Intraspeaker and interspeaker variability Workshop, taking
place 25–27 November, 2026.
The keynote speakers of the workshop are Anne Hermes, who will give a
talk on speech coordination in relation to syllable structure, age,
and disease-related effects, and Stefano Coretta, who will present on
Bayesian multilevel modelling and the estimation of uncertainty in
speaker variation.
The aim of the workshop is to present research addressing phonetic,
phonological, or other linguistic aspects of spoken language that
contributes to understanding and exploring inter-speaker and
intra-speaker variability across different phenomena. We particularly
welcome abstracts focusing on neuroatypical and pathological phonetic
variability, while also encouraging submissions from researchers
working on any aspect of speech variability. Accordingly, the workshop
invites submissions—without claiming to be exhaustive—on the following
topics:
 - intra- and interspeaker variability
 - short term phonetic variability
 - longitudinal speech changes
 - phonetic variability: articulation, acoustics, speech perception
 - linguistic variability
 - social and/or spatial variability of speech/language
 - neurophonetic/neurolinguistic/pathological variation
 - forensic speaker identification
 - earwitness identification
 - linguistic evidence
 - speaker specific features in speech
 - pathological variation
 - speech type related variation
 - other related topics
The workshop will take place in person at the ELTE Hungarian Research
Centre for Linguistics, 33 Benczúr Street, Budapest 1068, Hungary.
The working language of the conference will be English for the first
two days, then Hungarian for the third (last) day. Presentations will
be 20 minutes in length, followed by a 10-minute Q&A. There will be no
poster session at the conference.
To apply, a 1+1-page abstract must be submitted (submission deadline:
May 4, 2026:
https://easyabs.linguistlist.org/conference/SpeakVar2026/). Following
the workshop, a 4+1-page paper may be submitted for inclusion in the
conference proceedings.
