The Center of Linguistics of the University of Lisbon (CLUL,
https://www.clul.ulisboa.pt/en/aboutus) is calling for statements of
interest from researchers working in any of CLUL's areas of research
(http://www.clul.ulisboa.pt/en/research) who fulfil the conditions to
apply for a fully funded 3-year contract within the scope of the
Individual Call to Scientific Employment 2025 (CEEC
https://www.fct.pt/en/concursos/concurso-estimulo-ao-emprego-cientifico-individual-8-edicao
), from the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
CLUL is one of the topmost research units in Portugal, evaluated as
Excellent by FCT’s international panels.
CLUL has defined three strategic research pillars for 2025-2029 that
steer challenging areas both in the context of Portuguese linguistics
and in the broader context of language sciences' research, while
addressing unmet needs with strong societal impact: Language, Cultural
Heritage and Inclusive Societies; Language and Digital Technologies;
and Language and Communication in Acquisition, Development, and Aging.
Thus, major research strands within CLUL include:
(i) language acquisition and development;
(ii) language processing throughout the lifespan;
(iii) clinical linguistics;
(iv) educational linguistics;
(v) theoretical linguistics;
(vi) the development of language resources and applications for
Portuguese and Portuguese-related languages;
(vii) language variation (European and non-European varieties of
Portuguese and Portuguese-lexified creoles) in space and time;
(viii) digital humanities and scholarly editions
The CEEC contract will allow researchers to develop their research
projects at a competitive and friendly host institution, in a lively
European city.
The FCT call accepts submissions up to January 29, 2026. Candidates
who specialize in any of CLUL's areas of research and believe their
project may fit in our team's scientific goals can sendus an email (to
clul at letras.ulisboa.pt ) with a short CV, the identification of their
project's main area of research and a short abstract of their project.
The deadline for receiving statements of interest is January 12, 2026.
After review, CLUL will contact potential applicants to the Individual
Call to Scientific Employment 2025 and inform them whether the
Research Center will support their application to the Portuguese
Science Foundation 2025 Call.
