1999 FoLLI Prize for Outstanding Dissertations in Logic, Language and
Computation

Every year a prize is awarded to a Ph.D.dissertation on the basis of a
competition. The topic of the dissertation should fall under the heading of
one of the themes dealt with at the ESSLLI Summer schools, i.e. logic,
language and computation.  The name of the winner(s) of the next
competition will be disclosed at the FoLLI general assembly which will be
held during the first week of the ESSLLI Summer School scheduled to take
place in Utrecht, the Netherlands, August 9-20, 1999.

The PRIZE
The winner of the 1999 FoLLI Prize for Outstanding Dissertation in Logic,
Language and Computation will receive (the equivalent of) 1000 Euro's. The
prize is generously sponsored by the SPINOZA Prize awarded to Prof. J.van
Benthem

NOMINATIONS
To be eligible, candidates must have defended their Ph.D. dissertation on
or after January 1, 1998 and no later than December 31, 1998.

Candidates can only be nominated by their Ph.D. supervisors; according to
the rules, nominations sent in by the candidate him- or herself cannot be
considered.

To nominate a candidate for the award, the supervisor should send a message
with the following information to folli at wins.uva.nl:

-the name of the candidate
-title of the dissertation
-subject area
-an abstract of the dissertation of at most 50 lines
-a brief assessment of the work of at most 10 lines
-time and date of the Ph.D.defense

Please use 'PhD Award Nomination' as the subject of your message! The
deadline for submissions is APRIL 1, 1999. Late submissions will not be
considered.

The selection committee may decide not to award the prize, or it may decide
to select mutiple winners, in which case the prize will be split evenly
among the winners.
