I cleaned up once more, but replaced, for a few days, with 3 other
songs, 2 in Dutch, one in Limburgish. This time the songs are "kitchy",
but still very popular in Northern Belgium.

The Antwerp female singer Esterella became very popular in the early
fifties. She was called the Flemish Very Lynn, and she performed several
times for BBC-radio at the time. She is still alive, in her high
eighties I think, at incidentally appears on ATV (Antwerp regional cable
television).
Het song "Onze Lieve vrouwetoren" (the tower of our lady's cathedral
downtown Antwerp) (in Dutch) started as a B-side in 1953 but became, and
still is, enormously popular in Antwerp. The song got track 1 on a
recent CD by ATV "ATV stelt voor Antwerpse liedjes en humor, Magic
180-272-2".
The copy I have put on the server comes from an other CD though: track 1
(of 25) od CD "La Esterella, De levende legende, 25 originele versies,
Philips 838-279-2"

"Klokke Roeland" (in Dutch) was a very popular song for "a capella"
group singing in the mid of the 20th century (youth movements, school,
...). It deals with the bell "Roeland" in the belfort tower in Gent.
Belfort towers were the places where a town's charters of freedom were
preserved. "Roeland" is traditionally linked to medieval songs about the
knight Roeland who died in a battle against the Saracenes in Northern
Spain during Charlemagne's reign.
The file I saved comes from track 13 (of 15) of CD "Vlaanderen mijn
land" DINO DNCD 1266. It was released in the early years of VTM (the
Flemish TV competitor on cable to VRT, the official Flemish TV. Flemish
refers to Northern Belgium here, not to any dialect version of Dutch).
The singer Walter Capiau is not really a singer but a TV presentator,
and the whole thing is over orchestrated to my taste, but I
unfortunately do not have a better version.

"Loeënde klokke" (in Limburgish) was one of the first songs, I'm still
aware off, from my early childhood in the early fifties. I remember it,
as well as the song "'t Huikske", also sung by Frits Rademacher, on a
large 75 rpm records. Though Fons is from Netherlands Limburg, his songs
were very popular in Belgian Limburg at the time.
The file comes from track 2 (of 14) from CD "Het beste van Frits
Rademacher, Telstar TCD 100-736-2"
