Subject: Etymology

Dear Lowlanders,

Here are two quick things I keep forgetting to mention:

(1) Nowadays, the garment called _Piejack_ in Low Saxon (Low German) tends to
be called _Fischerhemd_ ("fishermen's shirt") in German, especially in the
tourist industry.

(2) I wrote:

And there was an earlier period of direct contacts between North German ports
and Russia's city of Novgorod during the Hanseatic Trading League era
(13th-17th centuries). Contacts there were with speakers of Russian and
assumedly also with speakers of Finnic (Novgorod Karelian).

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
