Subject: "Frisian"
Dear Lowlanders,
Considering - as far as my knowledge goes - that the Renaissance poet
Gysbert Japicx, who wrote in West Frisian, was a relatively isolated figure,
I wondered if anyone among you knows on which sources he based his
orthography of Middle-West-Frisian (in which he wrote his poems). Was there
a continuous writing tradition perhaps from the Late medieval law-tracts (in
Old Frisian) onward on which he might have based his own?
Alderik Minnema, Galway.
