Subject: Culture in the lowlands

The lowlands are not doing very bad in film making, and regularely get
films nominated for an Academy Award or a Golden Globe.

This week a Bosnian-Herzegovinian film "No man's land" got the Golden
Globe for the best foreign language film.
This film has some credits to Belgium, quote from "De Standaard" of
today:

LOS ANGELES - Beautiful Mind en Moulin Rouge zijn als grote winnaars uit
de bus gekomen tijdens de 59ste uitreiking van de Golden Globes vannacht
in Los Angeles. Er was ook een half Belgisch succes. In de categorie
niet-Engelstalige film haalde de satire No Man's Land van de Belg Danis
Tanovic het verrassend van de Franse film Le fabuleux destin d' Amélie
Poulin.

Tanovic, Bosniër van geboorte, studeerde in Sarajevo maar voltooide zijn
filmstudies aan de Brusselse Insas-filmschool en verwierf inmiddels de
Belgische nationaliteit.
