Modern Scots has many influences... Mainly Germanic
from the Vikings... However, Latin, French, and Gaelic
also come in.. If you take a look at the history of
Scotland you will see that Rome did not happened
there, neither did the Anglos or the Saxons nor the
Normans... But Scandinavians did.. A lot of the words
used in Low Scots are familiar or the same as in
Danish and Norwegian....

What we usually hear in movies and in radio is
standard English. So to some, Scots may sound just
like English but with a different accent and not like
a language in its own right... The ancestors of Scots
were mainly Germanic.....

Irish English has many Gaelic influences, more so than
Scots....
