It strikes me that that "sounds" a lot like the Dutch New Year's
blessing

About nazism and fascism on Iceland one does not talk
- not on Iceland and not outside of Iceland.
In the interbellum -the time before 1940- there were
certain contacts between Netherlands and Iceland.
In any case: generally known is that prof Jan de Vries
of Leiden University [chair of Oldgermanic studies]
fled to Germany in may 1945.

Well, Reinhard, the 'pure Germanic' obsession didn't
die in 1945. This little story is about the
'Lueneburger farmer wives':

In those days a lot of Icelandic farmers couldn't get
a wive, in spite of their fair appearance, eloquentia
and many other virtues.
And so the idea got ground to import a ship of
farmer-brides. The university of Iceland did some
research [prof. Alexander Johannesson] about
bloodgroups, shape of head, mentality, body shape,
colour of hair, colour of eyes and all that is
important for a pure Germanic race. And they found
that the purest race of all was to be found on the
Lueneburger Heide. And on Iceland of course.
And so, in 1956, a ship full of pure
Lueneburger-Heide-brides sailed off to Iceland, to
secure the pure Germanic race, and to get married to a
pure Icelandic farmer.
[By the way: I have been working on an Icelandic farm
for 5 months. I never slept better in my live.]

Of these women ab. 50% stayed on Iceland for ever, and
ab. 50% sailed home again in later years.

Thanks a lot for that information, Theo.  I didn't know about this before,
although I did know that Nazism (not only in Germany) did not suddenly die
with the end of World War II (and I personally had a real, very scary brush
with it as a child at a summer camp ...).  Also, I knew that the Nazi
propaganda machine had run a PR campaign in Iceland and the Faeroe Islands,
apparently with a certain degree of success, appealing to their people's
Germanic "purity" pride and obsession.

As for those women from the Heath, some of them may have been partly of
Draveno-Polabian (thus Slavonic) descent ...  ;-)
