The connection with 'geeuwen' is far from implausible, as geeuwhonger often
goes together with involuntary gaping mouth motions. As a matter of fact,
Van Dale defines 'geeuwhonger' as "plotselinge honger, flauwte waarbij de
lijder herhaaldelijk de mond krampachtig wijd opent en met geweld sluit,
schijnbaar als uiting van honger".
