Hallo almal,
Dis 'n plesier, Tomoki! Jy mag my enigiets vra, ook privaat, want die
taalpolitiek in SA is nogal 'n warm patat.
Nee, plekname is in een taal tensy dit vertaalbaar is soos Kaapstad/Cape
Town, of in een taal verskyn, soos
byvoorbeeld Louis Trichardt, Putsonderwater, Izingolweni, Ixopo of Umtata.
Die huidige regering is hard aan die werk om plekname te verander en daar is
baie teenkanting uit veral Afrikaner
kringe omdat die persepsie bestaan dat die regering ontslae wil raak van
historiese Afrikaanse plekname, veral in die Noorde.
Ek is nie seker wat jy met 'instruksies' bedoel nie. Op goedere wat
aangekoop word om self gebou te word (DIY) soos stortdeure, houtkaste, ens,
is instruksies meesal in Engels. Instruksies kan ook wel in Afrikaans
verskyn, afhangende van wat dit is en waar dit gemaak is.
Beskrywings op verpakkings is meesal in Engels, so ook op blikkieskos
(tinned food), bevrore kosse en vars produkte uitstallings.
Op die platteland sien mens baie meer Afrikaans en ander inheemse tale as in
die stede.
Staatswette wat in die Staatskoerant (oftewel Government Gazette) verskyn,
is gewoonlik getiteld in Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa en Sotho, en die wet self is
dan in Engels.

Elsie, hartlik dank vir de verbetering van my Afrikaans.
Ek is nuuskierig na de taalpolitiek in Suid-Afrika,
omdat ek na Suid-Afrika nog nooit gegaan het.
In die algemeen, word die pleknaam en die instruksies
in twee tale (Engels en Afrikaans) geskryf?
