Dear Arend, dear all,
this very, very charming poem, as yet unknown to me, wanted so urgently to
be translated into Plattdeutsch, that I have made a quick, free and not
quite serious translation of it, copied below. To whom it may amuse!

Moi Theo,
Ik speule tegenswoordig ok nog wel verstopperien mit mien kleinkiender en ok
dan roept ik nog altied "kiekeboe en koekoek"
Een gedicht van William Wordsworth (1770-1850) aover de Koekoek.
To the Cuckoo
O blithe new-comer! I have heard,
I hear thee and rejoice
O Cuckoo! Shall I call thee bird,
Or but a wandering voice?
While I am lying on the grass
Thy twofold shout I hear,
From hill to hill it seems to pass,
At once far off, and near.
Though babbling only to the vale,
Of sunshine and of flowers
Thou bringest unto me a tale,
Of visionary hours.
Thrice welcome, darling of the Spring!
Even yet thou art to me.
No bird, but an invisible thing,
A voice, a mystery:
The same whom in my school-boy days
I listened to that cry.
Which made me look a thousand ways
In bush and tree and sky.
To seek thee did I often rove
Trough woods and on the green.
And thou wert still a hope, a love
Still longed for, never seen.
And I can listen to thee yet,
Can lie upon the plain.
And listen, till I do beget
That golden time again.
O blessed bird! The earth we pace,
Again appears to be.
An unsubstantial, faery place!
That is fit home for Thee.
Goodgaon,
Arend Victorie
Överdragen:
*An'n Kukuuk*
Du bliede Gast! Ik heff di höört,
ik höör di noch, vull Weel.
Büst Vagel, Kukuuk, büst en Deert?
Orr hest keen lievlich Kehl?
In't Gras legg ik mi lingelang
un höör din Duppelschrieg;
de jumpt vun een na'n annern Hang,
wietaf un glieks nehgbi.
Dat schient, du snackst den Wischengrunn
bloots wat vun Sünn un Blööm;
man ik heff annern Sinn in funn'n,
de mi vun wiether keem.
Dreeduppelt wees willkamen, du
lent-leevste Spöök, Kukuuk!
Nich Vagel, nee, de unsichtbor
Stimm vun en Woold-Nis Puuk:
Din Roop weer't, de as lütte Deern
mi al dör't Krattholt dreev —
ik söch mang Büsch un Brummelbeern,
'neem bloots de Kobold bleev?
Unsichtbor Lengen, man keen Droom —
schöön is de Söök na di,
du Kukuuksroop, du Blage Bloom,
du flegen Fantasie.
Un nu noch höör ik di mit Weel
un ligg in't Gras un waak
un speel mit di min Kinnerspeel
un do dat noch miendaag.
Min Hartensvagel! Kiekt nich Eer
leeftallig, mit en Blick
ut Märkenoogen, as't eiß weer?
Hier wahnt wi, du un ik.

Well, well, Marlou, that's is one fine "translation" (Nachdichtung) I must
say. Why, I like it a tad better than the original English version, in large
part because it sounds fresher.
I hope you don't mind that I add below a version of your
"translation"transliterated into a system that is more accessible to
folks in the
Netherlands and others that know Dutch. (As you know, we are separated more
in writing than in speaking.) This way folks can sound it in their heads
(or with their mouths for all I know), and they don't misread "uu" as "üü"
etc. A brief glossary for Dutch is at the end.
Kumpelmenten,
Reinhard/Ron
