Perhaps this is all just swings and roundabouts anyway?

You can preserve the original nature of the language or you can get
something new in world languages, which is better? Maybe it's a good
thing that we get to see both in action.

In fact I doubt if the integrity of any language can really be preserved
for a significant period of time, whatever method is used to deal with
growth. It's not so much language death that's a problem as the fact
that minor languages tend to get replaced with major languages (often
carrying only such baggage as is taught in schools), reducing the
world's linguistic resources as a whole.
