Dear language lovers
I understand that here has been a discussion on certain consonant chanches.
It was difficult to understand why there has been a sound change from s to
r.
Maybe Verner's law can be helpful to solve this problem
Like Grimm's law , Verner's law explanes consonant changes which took place
at an early stage of Germanic. It boils down to this:
If the proceeding vowel did not , at that time, carry the main stress of the
word, certain consonants changed.
This implies that for example s became z which later developed to r
example; ċēosan > curon = choose (kiezen / keuren)
