The s-r shift is apparently termed "rhoticism". The classic case is the
change from the Proto-Germanic masculin ending *-az*, to Norse *-r*. We
also see it in the verb to be; "is" still has the PIE sound (-*asti*),
whereas "are" has rhoticised (being a Norse influence).
