On the other hand, irrigation ditches and canals almost always run between fields (not down the middle of fields) and do serve as boundary markers. I am not familiar with ditches running around houses.

1) a "ditch" is not a boundary marker. what we are talking about here is more
than like a stone...a series of stones....or just one stone. Not a ditch
around a house.
