Dear Professor Wanner,
Let an amateur of Russian literature provide a piece of
information about the publishers of A. Remizov's works
on a shelf of Waseda University.
  It has three cataloguing numbers:
FH9341: tt. 1--4. Izd. Shipovnik SPb. Nikolaevskaja 31.
(I guess it's Marata of today).
        * T.1 lacks the latter half of pages.
Has no data of publication date. Purchased in Kharbin
          in April 1913.
An appendix at the end of Volume 3 says the publisher
sells Volumes 1 to 7, costing 1 rouble 25 kopecks, except
the Volume 7 which is 2nd edition costing 2 roubles.
     FH9344: tt. 1--2.
        * The same as above, but complete.
     FH9343: t. 8. 1910--1912. Izdatel'stvo ,,Sirin`` SPb,
          Pushkinskaja 10. 1 rouble.
        * Purchased in Kharbin in 1916. At the end of the book is
a list, saying the publisher sells Volumes 1--8. The number
of pages of Volumes 1--7 precisely matches Shipovnik's edition.
        * The book's hard cover is dark brown, which is very different
from the white one of FH9344 (FH9341 was bought without
          the hard cover).

The information above means
      1. Volumes 1 to 7 were first published by Shipovnik. It is not
certain whether there were two editions or not. The publication
        date is not obvious, either.
      2. Volume 8 was published by Sirin. It is possible Sirin sold
Volumes 1 to 7 and/or re-printed them. (The same "tipografija"
printed all the 8 volumes anyway).
      3. Considering that the purchaser of these copies (Dr Katakami)
was a great bibliophile, the date of publication of Volume 8
is very likely after 1912 (but for the war, he could have
obtained it within a year). The publication date printed in the
volume 8 (1910--1912) does not necessarily apply for the volume 8.

You could write an e-mail to the Russian National Library in
St Petersburg for detailed information. They usually have
all the publication (I'm temporarily in Japan, will be
back in Pieter next month).

As to the publication date, one needs to look in the Knizhnaja
Letopis', which is a tough work. (I read through all the pages of
1917 to 1921 editions as a postgraduate student). A good cataloguist
will track down the exact year of publication of each volume and each
edition and each printing...

Cheers,
Tsuji
