Here is a question from someone about breathing symbols, which I just

Exhale means to breathe out, with or without the air coming out of the
mouth...The Exhale and Inhale symbols are taken from the singing
profession. Singers are trained sometimes to take a breath in an exact
place in the music, and some music scores for singers actually place
those symbols on the music score, in the exact spot where the the
singer is supposed to breathe in or out...but it has nothing to do
with the air itself coming out of the mouth..you can inhale and exhale
without any air coming out of the mouth...

Obviously inhaling or exhaling occurs when air comes out of the
mouth...so most of the time there is no need to double up.....if you
are writing air coming out of the mouth anyway, then it usually is not
necessary to write the Exhale symbol too...it will be
assumed...although some people write both and that is fine too...

> My initial thought was that Air Out and Air In specifically indicate
> mouth breathing where Exhale and Inhale could mean mouth or nose
> breathing?

Air Out and Air In are more than just "mouth breathing"...they are
more like "air blowing"...and "air sucking"...the person is making an
effort to be sure there is emphasis on the fact that the air-blowing
is important to the sign...

But just breathing through the mouth in a quiet fashion without any
"grammar-connected-air-blowing", because maybe you have a cold and you
can't breathe through the nose, would still be the simple Inhale and
Exhale.

They are located wherever you need them...In the ISWA I have included
some variation in sizes...

They can be placed anywhere...even on top of Movement Symbols, if an
Exhale is important to that specific spot in the movement

A visible sigh without air coming from the mouth could be the Inhale-
Exhale together...and you could add a Tension symbol on the part that
has the emphasis if you want...if there is air coming out of the mouth
and the blowing of air is important, you can have air too, and even
shoulders going up and down to show the visible nature of the sigh...

Generally I think of the center of the body when I place them...I have
them going towards the center of the body, when possible, but other
than that you can place them anywhere you feel the information is
necessary...

I hope this has helped...
