Agreed, Charles; on the other hand, we're not publishing the transcription exactly as I'm doing it now.  This is just the rough draft of the story, a transcription that is as close as possible to the actual video, and then it will go through an editing process in which the "out-takes" will be cleaned up before it gets published.  And as for the "best possible example of a sign from that signer" - that sign in what context?  A sign may be signed differently in isolation than it is in a sentence, just like spoken language, and sometimes the isolation form isn't the best way to write that word/sign.  Lots of factors involved in transcription . . . anyway, my point is that what I'm writing now will be edited and cleaned up before it's published, just like a movie or a spoken-language book is edited before it's published.  We're just not at that stage yet.

For a story, for myself, I'd try to get the best possible example of a sign from that signer.  You wouldn't publish a movie without out-takes, consider it a movie that has been perfected.
