Hi Val...

Val has explained the project correctly.

My part of the project, an avatar interprets SignWriting into sign language
gestures.
Given the graphical nature of SignWriting, SWML was ideal to parse in a
computer.

The SWML is provided as input to the avatar, the avatar then analyzes the
input(SWML) and renders the animation.

To create documents in SignWriting, I'm using SignText (offline) downloaded
at http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle/SignText.zip

Currently, the avatar is able to render very simple animation. see attached.

I've asked this questioned before, and my solution is working partially
The main problem right now is, the signing sequence in complex signs.
In attached file (sign2.tiff), these signs are the same.
I'm using the arrow to create a signing sequence, by this I mean which
symbol to sign first and so on.
The symbols below the stem of the line first, follow by the arrow and the
symbols above the arrow head last.
I'm using the x,y coordinates provided by SWML to determine the position of
the symbols.

In the attached file sign2.jpg, sign marked with a tick, the touch symbol is
above the below the arrow head.
This sign is animated correctly, hand touches head and the moves forward
In the second sign (marked with a cross) the touch symbol is above the arrow
head.
The hand moves forward and then touches the head.

SWML is very limited as Steve has mentioned.
Steve wrote "SWML allows sorting symbols to be used in sign's spelling, when
sorting symbols should only be used in the SignSpelling Sequence"
I'm not sure what he means by that.

Where is the new BSW work?

Regards
Kate
