SignWriting List
February 5, 2022

Hello Uta, and SignWriting List members!

Thank you, Uta, for this message. And thank you for your suggestion for a new Fingerspeller Keyboard for Swiss-German Sign Language.

There are different versions of writing fingerspelling in every sign language. In Brazil I noticed around 7 different ones could be possible.

Some people prefer one palm facing to another and that topic is so fascinating. It will be fun to discuss the linguistic issues of this later. Right now we are focusing on the software development of programs that will provide the possibility of multiple SignWriting keyboards, so you can have a special keyboard if you need it. Steve and Amit are working on the software development of the Fingerspeller Program and other programs.

So, the most important point is that our software is flexible and able to provide multiple keyboards to a country if necessary. At the moment we have two ASL fingerspelling keyboards, because there were two different requests from writers. I will try to explain this in the next message.

The next message will be a new thread: "SignWriting Fingerspeller Program”.

Thanks again, Uta, for your input ;-)

Val ;-)
