Legislature passes bill intended to preserve Native languages

     JUNEAU — The Legislature on Thursday passed a bill aimed at protecting
and restoring Alaska Native languages, which are on the decline and in some
instances nearing extinction.

The bill, which is headed to the governor’s desk, establishes the Alaska
Native Language Preservation and Advisory Council, a collection of language
experts who would research and find ways to protect and restore Alaska
Native languages.
