... my justification for this was my PNG birth made me a sort of
Pacific Islander, and Maori were the Pacific Islanders native to New
Zealand,
and we Pacific Islanders should stick together.

Wesley Parish

Now substitute "European", "White people", "Jews" or indeed anybody you like
for "Pacific Islander". Suddenly doesn't sound so admirable does it?

Concerning 'pragmatists' and 'ideologists':
Churchill was a pragmatist, Hitler an ideologist.

Who was the democratic one of them two??

Allerbest!

Jonny:

Churchill was a pragmatist, Hitler an ideologist.

Who was the democratic one of them two??

Furthermore, Churchill was English and American, Hitler Austrian and
naturalized German; Churchill was of aristocratic descent, Hitler of
dirt-poor peasant descent; Churchill stuttered, Hitler didn't; Churchill was
a carnivore, Hitler a vegetarian; Churchill has been argued to have
committed crimes against humanity (mostly for having masses of working-class
Germans killed), Hitler had people killed because of their supposed ethnic
backgrounds ...

So what does it all have to do with the price of tea in China? Are you
trying to argue with a single example that ideologists are not inclined
toward democracy?

On what is democracy based? Not on ideology? A common definition of
"ideology" is "organized collection of ideas." Democracy takes a lot of
effort and discipline, thus a strong ideological foundation to pull it off.
Dictatorships are far simpler and don't care about "niceties" like human
rights, decency and shared decision-making, so you might argue they're quite
pragmatic.

Gettin' the drift?
