Thanks for your good wishes. I was up in York, seeing my supervisor on
Tuesday.  We were worried about getting home, as the two major roads
south (M1 and A1M) were both blocked, but the AA website suggested a
slightly different route, which took no more time than usual.  One of
the people we were staying with is a property investor, and had gone
down to north Nottinghamshire very early, and got stuck.  A colleague of
my husband's had a site meeting (they work for English Heritage), and
the person they were meeting drove through too deep water.  The
colleague was going to rescue them, when his car went into a ditch.  So
only minor alarums and excursions, thank goodness.
