Dear Jonny et al.

You wrote "DE:'Makel' means an E: 'mistake', 'stigma', and in consequence we
have the verbum DE: "mäkeln", which could be translated as E: "to
critizise". And - going on - in LS we find "meckern", which also could be
translated as E: "to belittle", "to malign"."

macula Latin = spot, stain   immaculate  = spotless

Makel DE = mistake  stigma ( stain of character)

mäkeln DE = to criticise

spotten DE = to deride, to criticise

Spott = spot = macula =mäkeln

Double development along similar concepts using 2 different languages? Spott
being the Germanic and Mäkeln being the Latinate
