Siwash

You're not the only scholar who didn't "get it" about Siwash.  A recent
book by Marilyn Watkins, which considers populism in the Centralia, WA
area, uses Siwash as if it is in fact a tribal name.  The book is from one
of the major university presses (back east), but the editor didn't catch
it.  That's the "beauty" of the term, I think -- it just sounds right,
when compared to other tribal names in this part of the world.
