Dear Uwe, Lowlanders,
The above message hade been hiding in my inbox for quite a while. My
apologies.
It pertains to the discussion about *backen* 'to bake' and *backen* 'to
adhere'. Uwe adds to this *backen* 'to back up', 'to go backward'.
I believe that the latter is one of the nautical loans from English in
certain Low Saxon dialects. Another example is *T**ö**ö**rn* ~
*T**ö**rn *'turn'
(noun).
